Allegation of Misconduct

CHANNEL: Jurnal Komunikasi is committed to maintaining the integrity of scholarly publishing. The journal follows the principles and relevant procedures recommended by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) when addressing allegations of research misconduct, whether raised before or after publication.

Types of Research Misconduct

Research misconduct includes, but is not limited to:

  1. Data Fabrication: Inventing data, findings, or research results.
  2. Data Falsification: Manipulating research materials, procedures, or data to misrepresent research findings.
  3. Plagiarism: Using another person's ideas, text, data, or other intellectual contributions without appropriate acknowledgment.
  4. Citation Manipulation: Inappropriately manipulating citations, including coercive citation practices and citation cartels.
  5. Authorship Misconduct: Inappropriate authorship practices, including ghost, guest, or gift authorship, and omitting individuals who meet the criteria for authorship.
  6. Other Ethical Violations: Other practices that undermine the reliability, transparency, or integrity of scholarly research and publication.

Investigation Procedure

  1. Receipt of Allegations: Allegations should be submitted in writing to the Editor-in-Chief, accompanied by relevant information or supporting evidence where available. The journal will acknowledge receipt and assess whether the concern warrants further investigation.
  2. Preliminary Assessment: The Editor-in-Chief will conduct a confidential preliminary assessment to determine the nature and credibility of the allegation. Where necessary, the journal may consult an editorial ethics committee or other qualified individuals.
  3. Author's Right to Respond: If the allegation warrants further inquiry, the corresponding author will be informed of the concern and given a reasonable opportunity to respond and provide relevant clarification or evidence.
  4. Further Investigation and Institutional Consultation: Where the available evidence indicates possible research misconduct that cannot be resolved through editorial inquiry, the journal may refer the matter to the relevant research ethics committee or the author's affiliated institution for further investigation.
  5. Editorial Decision and Actions: Decisions will be based on the available evidence, the seriousness of the violation, and applicable publication ethics guidance. Depending on the findings and the manuscript's publication status, actions may include rejection, requests for correction, publication of an expression of concern, retraction of a published article, or notification to the relevant institution.

Confidentiality and Fairness

CHANNEL will handle allegations confidentially and fairly, respecting the rights of all parties involved. The journal will avoid premature conclusions and provide relevant parties with an appropriate opportunity to respond. Information will be shared only with individuals or institutions as necessary to assess and resolve the case.

Post-Publication Misconduct

If credible concerns arise after an article has been published, CHANNEL will assess the evidence and take appropriate action in accordance with publication ethics principles. Where necessary, the journal may publish a correction, an expression of concern, or a retraction to maintain the integrity of the scholarly record.

The journal reserves the right to reject submissions or take further editorial action when misconduct is established. Any action will be proportionate to the nature and severity of the violation and consistent with applicable ethical standards.
