CHANNEL: Jurnal Komunikasi welcomes manuscripts that offer substantial empirical and theoretical contributions to communication scholarship. Submissions should demonstrate clear relevance to the field and explain the significance of their findings for communication theory, research, and practice. The journal particularly encourages manuscripts that examine, extend, or develop theoretical frameworks while providing rigorous empirical analysis of important communication issues.

Types of Manuscripts Accepted

1. Original Research Articles

Original research articles present findings from empirical investigations of media and digital communication phenomena. These manuscripts should employ appropriate theoretical frameworks and rigorous research methods to examine issues such as media content and representation, journalism and digital news, social media practices, platform cultures, digital audiences, media consumption, online communities, algorithmic mediation, and the social implications of digital technologies.

Articles should present a clearly defined research problem, a relevant theoretical or conceptual framework, a transparent methodology, well-supported findings, and a discussion of their contributions to media studies or digital media research.

2. Review Articles

Review articles critically synthesize existing scholarship on communication within media studies and digital media. They may examine developments in media theories, digital communications, digital media research, platform studies, digital cultures, audience studies, media representation, journalism, or the relationship between media technologies and society.

Review manuscripts should employ a clearly articulated review approach, such as a systematic literature review, scoping review, or integrative review, as appropriate to the research objectives. They are expected to identify significant theoretical debates, synthesize existing findings, map research trends or gaps, and propose directions for future scholarship in media studies and digital media.

3. Case Studies

Case studies provide an in-depth examination of specific media-related phenomena, practices, institutions, platforms, or events in their social and cultural contexts. Relevant topics may include digital media platforms, social media cultures, online communities, digital journalism practices, media representation, platform governance, algorithmic practices, digital activism, and the production or circulation of media content.

Case studies should be grounded in relevant theoretical perspectives and supported by systematic analysis of appropriate empirical materials. Beyond describing a particular case, manuscripts should explain its broader significance and demonstrate how the findings contribute to understanding media practices, digital cultures, or the relationship between media and society.

Scope and Relevance

Regardless of manuscript type, submissions must establish a clear and substantive contribution to media studies and/or digital media. We consider research on communication, marketing, public relations, organizational communication, or related fields only when media or digital media is a central analytical focus rather than merely a communication channel or research setting.

All submissions must be original, unpublished, and not under consideration by another journal. Manuscripts are evaluated based on their relevance to the journal's focus and scope, originality, theoretical engagement, methodological rigor, and contribution to media studies and digital media scholarship.
